Some feedback from me after buying a computer partly for dt use: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.graphics.darktable.user/6510 > Some questions : > 1- i5 or i7 ? If you have a good GPU, then the CPU is secondary. Take a good one, but don't put all your money in it. > 2- 8GB DDR3 or more ? You can live with 8 GB, but at least, make sure you have extra slots to extend it later. I just bought 16 extra GB for ~100€, it'll take a while before I start wanting more RAM ;-). > 3- graphic adaptor or the one that is built in the motherboard ? A good GPU does speed up dt a lot. But you do need a good one (> 1GB of graphics RAM, good floating point performance), and integrated ones are usually not good enough. A bad graphics card will be slower than your CPU, hence totally useless for dt. An average one will be barely better than your CPU, and won't be worth the money. > 5- SSD+HDD or HDD is enough ? The greatest advantage of SSD is fast access time, very useful when you have a lot of small files to read (typically speeds up boot a lot). It won't make a huge difference for dt (especially if you have a lot of RAM). -- Matthieu Moy http://www-verimag.imag.fr/~moy/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ _______________________________________________ Darktable-users mailing list Darktable-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/darktable-users
