Exiftool is probably a good one. In the future we should make it much easier to edit those from inside darktable itself. And just to make it clear and as Roman has clarified when I said edit the XMP I meant edit the sidecar .xmp file, not the XMP data that's sometimes inside the raw files themselves. That's once again a bad idea to edit.
