My experiments with using exiftool to write to to .xmp files usually
fail.  What can be modified seems very restricted.
Exiftool will report on what's in a .xmp file OK, but I can't get it to
modify what's there beyond "rights". that is I can't add the geolocation
information in my example use-case as described earlier in this thread.

Geotags, comments and others all fail.
As readers earlier might have gathered, geographic information and
comments are what matters to me.  I have no interest in altering
information that pertains to the image data.

I've also tried dat/time/timezone.  They fail too.
