If it is anything like sql 6.5, the sql services have an account and
password.  You may have set these up using your username initial password,
so when you change it, the service can no longer run.  Try the nt service
manager and see what account is being used.  If this is the case, then set
up an account used for sql only with a password that doen't expire.
