Well, technically, there is another solution.

1) set _default.pif "Idle sensitivity" to far left (I also deselect "Always
suspend" to avoid network issues).

2) instead of running shell or dp directly (which would consume 100% of cpu),
use a batch file (where you may wish to set some environment variables such as
WPC) that includes the "START" command.

   Example starting SHELL with macros:
           START "Shell" /BELOWNORMAL MC.EXE SHELL

or for dp only: START "dp" /belownormal dp.exe

Quotes portion will be title of window.

Belownormal keeps dp from hogging everything when you don't need it.

There is only one solution, Ralph : install Tame!

I have DP running on a large number of XP-Pro machines for a company critical
POS-application.

Without Tame, this would be impossible: the application uses 100% of the
processor resources. With Tame installed, it runs extremely smoothly.

I bought a Tame Release 4 Multi-user license (150 users) for 532.88 Euros a
couple of years ago, the single user license costs $20. Under XP, I would
recommend Tame version 4.5e (straightforward, no bells, no whistles). It has a
30 days free evaluation license - which, by the way, never expires.

Under Vista, you will need a more recent version (lots of whistles that I don't
need/like).
