Hi Tim,
Thanks for that got OE working now. One wonders why Microsoft would not have included this in their supposedly more fully featured Outlook email client. And Outlook Express is what I'm using so I know it works with it. I have Outlook Express configured with the server set as: news.gmane.org Then I let it retrieve newsgroups. Then I subscribed to the gmane.comp.db.dataperfect.general newsgroup. Try those settings with Outlook Express and see if you get better results. I don't use Outlook so I can't help you much there. Sorry. Tim Rude "Brian Hancock" <[email protected]> wrote in message news:0d2071f1c6ae41ceb2eb0d502c901...@brian4... Hi Tim, I should have searched back and read your posting on the 11th August about the Gmane MailingList archiver. Since posting are available quickly on gmane it seems likely that the problem is at the queueing to, or performance of, the SMTP server at the host for the dataperfect.nl mailing list. Although gmane looks to be quick and has everything there, I must say I prefer getting postings in my email rather than opening a separate News Reader or the web interface of the Gmane site. My email client Outlook 2003 (or any Outlook except Outlook Express) does not directly support NNTP news feeds unless you have a Exchange Server behind it. I have found a couple of Outlook Add-Ins which will add an NNTP reader to Outlook but they are not free, and also I really do not want to stuff around with Outlook without someones recommendation. Does anyone know a nice way to handle NNTP messages in Outlook? As an interim I have tried unsuccessfully to use Outlook Express as my news reader; it seems to be having problems finding the server at nntp://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.db.dataperfect.general This might be a firewall issue for me, but before I go delving in that mess has anyone used Gmane with a News Reader or only the web interface? For anyone who missed Tims August posting the web archive is at http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.comp.db.dataperfect.general Regards Brian _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Tim Rude Sent: Wednesday, 13 October 2010 1:11 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Dataperf] Slow posting times from mailinglist And I see my reply on gmane 1 minute later.
