Hi, All,

Just a note in case this is relevant to anyone:

I have found that on computers which have an actual LPT1 printer port
installed, if the user does not have administrator rights, the Net Use command
to redirect LPT1 will fail for them. You must first disable LPT1 in
administrator mode.

  Fabio,

I have a Windows based network running a DP app and printing to USB printers,
some via "net use" and others via dpspool. Both work perfectly. If you're
using the "net use" with the USB printer connected directly to your computer,
you will still need to "share" the printer so you can redirect your LPT1.

  Example: net use lpt1: \\LAXDIMP3\hp-1320

The "LAXDIMP3" being the name of the computer the USB printer is attached to,
and the "hp-1320" the share name of the printer.

You can incorporate this command line in your DP app's .bat file if you
prefer.

Of course, any other machine in the same network can now also print to the
same printer using the net use command.

I should advise you that between net use and dpspool, I now prefer the
dpspool method. My only problem with dpspool is the font and pitch variation
between different printer brands (the same report prints out differently in a
canon than an hp).

  Ed.

You probably have this covered about the DOS Guest not seeing shared Netbios
resources on the VMWare host. Have you ensured that the resources on the osts
are shared with a 8.3 filenaming convention? Although not specifically with
VMWare I have occasionally be stung by the fact that I had a long share name.
Hostname sharename and subfolder names must not be more than 8 DOS legal
characters long. Same also applies to printer sharenames, just in case the net
use LPT1 is trying to use a long filename.

If you can write to a shared host folder then you can use whatever you want
to use to print from the host, DPSpool, prinftfile etc. As I said I am a big
fan of wrapping up DP output in HTML, and using a CSS sheet to style it.

  Regards

  Brian

Ok Guys , Just don't wanna to confuse things. The First goal is to print by a
virtual machine (if possible). Then we go to the print quality. Jon , I'm using
Vmware player 3.x , but I think everything done here can be replicate in your
config. Regarding printing , DOXBOX megabuild worked fine to me. But, as I'm
having problems with keyboard mapping and ctrl-F keys which are not working, I
jumped to VMware. In vmware, CTRL-F keys are working fine but printing is not
working. By the way , My printer is USB. Normal parallel would work fine. So
I'm trying a workaround to see if I can print from Vmware to my USB print. By
what I saw in the forums is very difficult to make VMware using a DOS guest OS
to print to a USB in the host. I tried the Net use LPT1 but it did not work.
Tried a software called printfile that can work to monitor a directory and send
all files there to the printer but vmware locks down the file that it uses as a
printer output when configured to work with output to file and printfile is not
working well due this particular aspect. Now I'm testing if I can connect to
the usb printer via the virtual machine network. The most difficult part which
is setup a dos netbios network is already working but I'm still having some
problems with the netbios and the guest is not finding any resource shared on
the host. Another point is that I'm trying with Freedos and free tools , I have
another Virtual machine with MS-DOS/Windows 3.11 installed but in this case I
cannot make it available if it works. Anyway I'll continue to test with Vmware
, meanwhile if somebody has a DOXBOX config running fine pls advise.

  Rgds...

you are already very skilled in virtualization butI didn't find any vmware
appliance ready with DP, so I decide to buildone. It seems to be working fine,
my only problem is with printing, asI don't have a parallel print but an USB
and I'm still trying to putthe appliance to print. I'm trying to redirect the

finein DOXBOX after some changes in the config file. Does anybody havesuccess
to remap the CTRL-F Keys ? Is it possible to copy the configfile and send in a
msg to the list ? Regarding the vmware appliance,as soon as I got success with
the printer I'll try to let the applianceavailable somewhere.
