Hi Don,

Me again.

I used to reindex my database on a regular basis as a form of housekeeping.

If you don't want to pay out for SSD, you can run DP on RAM DISK.

Prior to SSD's becoming available in the 90's, I used to create a RAM disk on
boot up and then with batch files as menu options in DP office, I would copy my
DP database to the RAM DISK for the day's work and then copy back to HDD at the
end. Naturally the PC was powered by a UPS.
I ran the RAM disk from the late 80's for many years before the SSDs became
available. This was on an 286. One database I created used to take 2-3 hours
to re-index on HDD. On RAM disk this dropped to about 8 minutes.

There are utilities available to use as a RAM DISK

Subject: [Dataperf] Two points of inquiry

First, has anyone written (in English) a formula for scanning text and
adjusting the capitalization of names? As in changing MCCARTHY to McCarthy? I'm
about to undertake this to see how it goes but if someone has done it it would
be helpful. Obviously there's no great trick to it other than writing a very,
very long formula.

Secondly, on one of my larger voter databases that was acting just fine
yesterday, when I opened it up this morning the colors changed on my basic
panel listing and report writing screens. I went in to the STE file and saw
that there was a bit of corruption in the header area which I was able to
correct without having to reindex (that takes all night plus some . . . ) but
I'm wondering how often any of you find that happening.

Don
