At the moment I'm running DP on WinXP in VMware player, in a Win7 64 bit
system. All the shortcuts I am accustomed to using work except for the
alt-tab program shift out of DP - it works to shift into DP. My biggest
concerns are the cut and paste functions, which work well. The VMware
WinXP box can be full screen if desired. I use a slightly smaller window
because it makes it easy for me to switch into other programs with a
mouse click, and with a 22" screen, I still get a good clear DP interface.
The biggest problem I face is that opening the virtual machine is slow.
A secondary problem is that the virtual machine is a bit less stable
than most programs, which may mean exiting and rebooting the virtual
window. With DP you don't lose any data in that, though.
Someone mentioned that with Win7 professional you can run a program in
XP mode. I've just been looking into that; it is also apparently a
virtual machine, but might be more stable and faster being native to
Windows. It's not clear that you can run DP on it, though, so far.

I don't know how. Any suggestion how to use the ctrl keys in 64-bit?

You don’t need to use DP in a small window, though full screen mode is
not attractive. However, you can use DP in ALMOST full screen mode,
though the path is anything but obvious.
Open Data Perfect. Click on the DP icon in the top left corner of the
window. Choose Properties. Font. In that tab choose the Lucida Console
Font, & a font size that gives you the window size you want. with a 17"
screen, I found that I get the biggest window that doesn’t overflow the
screen with font size 20. With my present 22" screen I use font size 28.
When you exit, you will be asked if you want the change just for this
window, or for all windows. Try it for the window you’re working on, &
when you have a result that satisfies you, go in, make a change, change
back, & select Save properties for future windows with the same title.
You may have to drag the window corner to a size that eliminates the
sliders.
I find that with font smoothing enabled in Windows, I get large, clear,
crisp type, which I cannot get in full screen mode.

Thanks Don for your response.
My major concerns are with the screen that it is too small to work with all day
and
with the ctrl keys - Ctrl-F7, ctrl-F4 and other ctrl keys which don't work. DP
on
Win7/32 does not have ctrl keys problem.
By the way, where would I find it online? Do you have any suggestion on
alternative
software?
Malkie - there are ways of running DP under newer versions of Windows, I'm
playing with them
now. They've been discussed online.
You aren't the only one still using it but our numbers are dwindling. I haven't
heard about Lew in
years but I would have to suspect that he's no longer active.

Hi Everyone;
Haven't heard from our DP friends for a long time. What happened? Has DP become so
defunct that I'm the only one left using it? ; (
Many of my clients and I have upgraded to Win 64-bit but apparently this new
platform is not quite compatible for DP Dos version and we need to
upgrade to a
different database. Although I'm sure no program can ever be as superb as
DP, I would
appreciate any suggestion of a more up-to-date user friendly, simple and
great program
to replace DP.
I hereby would officially like to thank Lew Bastian, DP's author, and the crew, for this
amazing program I purchased in 1990 and became addicted to. Any plans of
coming
out with a Window's version? I would pay any amount for it.
