Hi. (Stephen) I must admit I never having thought to try 'startx' on an embedded target. The DM355 will start the X server if you boot from the supplied NFS root filesystem - it did for me although I didn't have a mouse available and the console keyboard was not 'diverted' - I assume you are meant to have a USB mouse/keyobard or perhaps it just isn't configured properly (I don't have time to check). The packages are here (assuming the MV Pro is installed in /opt/dm355): /opt/dm355/mv_pro_4.0.1/montavista/pro/devkit/arm/v5t_le/packages/pro/ and includes xorg-x11-6.8.2-15.0.6.0600975.arm_v5t_le.mvl xorg-x11-debuginfo-6.8.2-15.0.6.0600975.arm_v5t_le.mvl xorg-x11-dev-6.8.2-15.0.6.0600975.arm_v5t_le.mvl xorg-x11-doc-6.8.2-15.0.6.0600975.arm_v5t_le.mvl xorg-x11-fonts-100dpi-6.8.2-15.0.6.0600975.arm_v5t_le.mvl xorg-x11-fonts-75dpi-6.8.2-15.0.6.0600975.arm_v5t_le.mvl xorg-x11-fonts-cyrillic-6.8.2-15.0.6.0600975.arm_v5t_le.mvl xorg-x11-fonts-encodings-6.8.2-15.0.6.0600975.arm_v5t_le.mvl xorg-x11-fonts-misc-6.8.2-15.0.6.0600975.arm_v5t_le.mvl xorg-x11-fonts-truetype-6.8.2-15.0.6.0600975.arm_v5t_le.mvl xorg-x11-fonts-type1-6.8.2-15.0.6.0600975.arm_v5t_le.mvl xorg-x11-libs-6.8.2-15.0.6.0600975.arm_v5t_le.mvl xorg-x11-xserver-6.8.2-15.0.6.0600975.arm_v5t_le.mvl The window manager (if you need one) is IceWM icewm-1.0.9-13.0.0.0600975.arm_v5t_le.mvl The .mvl files are just RPM files renamed. These can be extracted & merged into a smaller root filesystem manually or you need DevRocket to do it for you as part of 'rolling your own' root filesystem.

There is nothing stopping you 'porting' an X server (say nano X) to the DM355 apart from the effort involved. This 'effort' may cost you more in development time/cost than paying for an existing commercial package. You could go the QTopia route - there are other embedded platforms that have done this, touch screens as well. We ended up with PEG (http://www.swellsoftware.com) and Trinity were so impressed, they bought the company ;-) We have Opera running on DM6446 incidentally. EVM came MontaVista Pro 4.0.1 Evaluation version. Example application like will TouchScreen based Adress Book and selecting some butons etc and we also plan to use Opera (or similer) webbrowser for broswing. What will be the best possible solution for this? is GTK+ Ok? MontaVista Says they Have Graphics Tools in Pro edition, but doesn't have in the eval version. Do we need to get Full Licence Version to enable X Windows on DM355 EVM board.
