Exactly.  Now your getting to why it is important from a maintainer's
perspective.

Not only "would be good to do a quick sanity check", it will be
required for the patch to go upstream.  

Depending on the type of change, testing on the other platforms by the
author or others will be required for your patch to be accepted
upstream.  For that reason, I want it to be easy and convenient not
just for myself, but for everyone to test on multiple platforms.
