Kish:
If your execute your BACKUP command without using hte ONLINE parameter.
Your backup is done in offline mode, which is the default. Online mode allows
other applications to remain connected to the database and do active work while
the backup is proceeding. Alternately, for an offline backup, only the backup
job itself may be connected to the database.

For online mode, the database must be recoverable; that is ,
archive logging must be enabled. AppServer has active connection to the WAS
database, since you mentioned 24*7, I'll still recommend Online Backup,
Online backup will allows you to backup the database with active connections.
Otherwise, cooridinate with your WAS administrator, bring down all applications
normally, stop WAS and perform offline backup.

                 Regards,
                 Eric
