That's in my opion not the best way to install an oracle client.   
Much saver is to use the oracle installer and to install the oracle software
locally (I usually install sqlnet + pro*c + sqlplus). After this some tests
with sqlnet (tnsping) are an good idea to make sure that everything is
configured well at the end.
