Unfortumately there seem to be conflicts which binaries for Solaris8 on sunfreeware.com will work with GCC 2.95 or GCC 3.01.
I have some apps that fail unless GCC 3.01 is installed (openssh, etc) but I can not get DBI-1.20 to compile with GCC 3.01 but it does compile under GCC 2.95. To be honest, I am ready to back out of Solaris 8. It seems to me that opensource isn't ready for Solaris 8 yet.
