and the users want now, or will need in the near future, to build with
latest, stable and recommended versions of MariaDB and MySQL. 

Code changes all the time with everything, people have to adjust if it
alters their expectations, why should an entire project stay in the dark
ages just to appease a tiny few. 

As a very wise man once said, you cant please everyone all of the time.
