Either way it's probably a good idea for me to investigate using database replication rather than drbd.

We actually don't do any replication, or similar.
For recovery if filesystem fails we use postgres with PITR.
Is a PITR with postgres relatively fast? I have to consider the downtime. I realise that filesystem / server failures are fairly rare but I just want to cover myself in case of emergency.

Not wanting to start a database flame war here... but is there a better option between MySQL 5.0 and Postgres 8.1 *for dbmail*? As long as the performance is similar I would prefer a database that was more reliable. The reason I highlight dbmail is that there are so many comparisons between the two databases on a general level, not for a specific application.

Thanks,
Josh.
