Cool as in: ubuntu does dbmail packaging for 2.2.17 where debian doesn't
have them.

Don't count on those packages running on lenny.

I'm talking about:

sudo cat >> /etc/apt/sources.list << EOF
deb-src http://debian.nfgd.net/debian/ main
EOF
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get build-dep dbmail
sudo apt-get source -b dbmail

which will/should build debs for your system.
