Why
does deal expect a static library since I have requested shared
objects?
I have no clue. I suspect there is a reason.
METIS 4.0 had only a rather rudimentary Makefile -- probably owed to the
fact that it came out in 1998, IIRC -- and only built as a static lib.
There were no updates to METIS until this year.
