what the hell?? I've just referred the team to
peer-reviewed medical journal articles,

made an absolutely inappropriate accusation
I would ask _both of you_ to take a small step back.
Science is not black and white. Science, particularly medical science, does
not always yield clear-cut truths. Are vaccines good or bad? Depends on too
many issues. And different researchers will focus on their advantages and
risks (and on the advantages and risks of _not_ taking them). Yes, I do
have a friend who died from heart complications probably linked to the
COVID vaccine he was given. And yes, I did continue to get vaccinated —
it's my choice. And as we said, we can _recommend_ vaccination, but it's in
the end a matter of each of us evaluating ① their respective health
conditions and ② the information on risks they consume.
Being published in a peer-reviewed journal does not mean the process is
flawless. The COVID vaccine protocols were internationally relaxed due to
the emergency. And yes, there might be people refusing the shots for
genuinely legitimate reasons.
As long as we (as the DebConf organizers) do not say “you MUST present
proof of vaccination to be registered”, nobody should be attacked for
deciding not to do so themselves. It is just a strong recommendation. You
can “apt install debconf-26 --no-install-recommends”.
