On my system, there's a configuration automatically installed that routes all
of the audio through PulseAudio, including applications that try to access
Alsa devices.

I didn't actually install it deliberately; it was installed automatically via
an upgrade and it didn't break anything except the FreeSWITCH PortAudio
module, but that's a different issue.
