reassign 174348 debian-installer thanks It appears that at the moment debian-installer doesn't have this problem, since it asks for the user to enter the full device name for the LILO location. But here's a quote from debian-installer/tools/lilo-installer/TODO:

I suppose the only reasonable choices are the MBRs and the partition that /target/boot is on. I think that my comments in the initial bug report, and the subsequent discussion of flexibility/simplicity tradeoffs, are relevant to handling this TODO item within debian-installer, so I'd like to leave this bug open for the perusal of whoever eventually works on this bit of d-i.
