debian-user is not the right lists for questions about the new debian installer. Forwarding to debian-boot.
It seems to me that you are trying to use the debian-installer with the Debian 3.0 (woody) CDs. The debian-installer is targeted at the next release of debian (sarge), and probably will not work with the woody CDs. I'm left wondering how you booted it -- from floppy? -- since it is not on the woody CDs you downloaded. I suggest that if you want to use the debian installer, you go to http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ , read the INSTALLATION-HOWTO there, and use the installation CDs linked to on that web site. If you have trouble downloading the CDs from there (several parts of the Debian server infrastructure are still down after the recent compromise), you get get them here: http://www.mmweg.rwth-aachen.de/~sebastian.ley/d-i/ ----- Forwarded message from "Dave L. I have been unable to get past the "Install the Base System" portion. I've confirmed that dists/woody/main/binary-i386/Release is present on the installation CD, but anytime I try to use it, I get the following error: "The installation program couldn't find any directory containing a file basedebs.tar or dists/woody/main/binary-i386/Release." What gives? Thnx, Dave ----- End forwarded message ----- -- see shy jo
