Hello, I used d-i beta 4 to install Debian GNU/Linux unstable on my laptop and desktop. Everything went fairly smooth. However, I couldn't get any CD to play using neither Kscd nor gnome-cd-player. I let discover manage my mounted media, but I don't think this has anything to do with it.
When posting this to the Belgian Linux newsgroup, someone pointed out that my permissions on /dev/hdc (/dev/cdrom0 is a symlink to /dev/hdc) were wrong: They were user "root" but group "disk". As I understand it, "disk" is used for hard disk and the like. I chgrp'd it to "cdrom", and everything worked fine since then. My desktop was experiencing the same problem. I don't know if it's got anything to do with the Debian Installer, but you might want to take a look at the permissions after a fresh install. Thanks for your hard work on d-i!
