<I didn't get to choose which kernel would be installed. That probably
required booting with linux26 or expert. The kernel installed was ok,
but for 386. Autodetect my 686 so I don't have install it later (ok I
know, CD space limited). The questions asked were good; not too many,
irrelevant or difficult. A control freak like me should have used
expert, but I wanted to see how easy it can get. Thank you guys!>

The reason you got the 386 kernel is that there is no 686 kernel available on
the netinst CD image.
If you had used the businesscard CD image or e.g. the netboot installation
method, the list of available kernels would have been downloaded from the
archives and the correct one selected.
A complete selection of kernels should also be included on the full CD sets.
You are correct that a list of available kernels will be shown if you install
at a lower priority.
Thank you very much for your report.
