Package: rsync
Version: 2.6.2-3
Severity: normal
I have a symlink from /usr/local to /home/local, which rsync
replaces with a directory, even though I use --no-implied-dirs:
# pwd
/usr
# ll -d local
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Aug 23 12:05 local -> /home/local/
# \rsync -auvz -e ssh -R --no-implied-dirs jdc.math.uwo.ca:/usr/local/bin/apt /
Password:
receiving file list ... done
usr/
usr/local/
usr/local/bin/
usr/local/bin/apt
wrote 36 bytes read 1251 bytes 514.80 bytes/sec
total size is 2549 speedup is 1.98
# ll -d local
drwxrwsr-x 3 root staff 4096 Aug 19 11:16 local/
The man page says:
For instance, if you transfer the file "/path/foo/file" with -R, the
default is for rsync to ensure that "/path" and "/path/foo" on the
destination exactly match the directories/symlinks of the source.
Using the --no-implied-dirs option would omit both of these implied
dirs, which means that if "/path" was a real directory on one machine
and a symlink of the other machine, rsync would not try to change
this.
