Right. At first at thought I was another victim of #109420,
especially because it only happened when _reloading_ the cache after
an apt run, and not consistently at that. But strace results were
authoritative, and indeed after I installed tasksel (for which I have
no use) it stopped.

I still don't see this bug. Much of aptitude's code base has been
modified since it was reported, and several nasty crashing bugs have
been fixed. Closing it to clear out the bug list a little.
