Package: gnome-packagekit Version: 3.4.2-2
The Issue: there are no update notifications (ex: a system try icon or pop-up window) that alerts users that software updates are available. This is confirmed across several different computers both 32 and 64 bit, in both gnome and lxde. Since update-notifier is not included anymore on regular Debian wheezy (at least it wasn't on my 7.6 versions), the task of notifying users about existing updates falls on gnome-packagekit - that package used to have a notification but it is not the case anymore. Suggested solution: Please enable some form of systray icon or similar notification to warn users that a update(s) is available. Not doing so would be quite detrimental to adoption of Debian by less technically inclined folks, I've worked with many of them and they will never update anything unless told so.. Thanks, J
