This change was quite small: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/pan/-/commit/ac05c74e99a66fbf14ddc44346f3f3fd7ce5f471 The change in pan.cc was done to match the Icon name in the desktop file. Could you try to change the content of /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.pan.desktop to add back "StartupWMClass=pan" line ? All the best
