Of course, that's why I'd call it important. If it caused a hang on all
setups it would be grave IMO.

Hmm, my gut says a downed iface is not good. Could you please try
running the quota script before the network-manager script and/or
disable the network-manager script and reboot? I'd like to figure out
which action triggers this. I might try setting up a test nfs server in
my lan over the weekend, too.
