Hi, Ray,

Thank you for going through all that trouble. What you write about version
1.9.4 returning
#VALUE! errors causes me top be somewhat pessimistic. Maybe my original tables
worked only
because of a bug-turned-feature in the previous version and have stopped
working because
the bug in MATCH was fixed. In my version, incidentally, these fields show
#N/A! instead
of #VALUE!

I hope I'll get some answers by writing to the mailing lists you suggested.

Best wishes,

Axel

At http://www.xinara.org/~ray/tmp/516645-test/ I've put a quick and dirty
backport of sid's current gnumeric package and the newer libgsf and goffice
packages it requires.

I enclude on of the spreadsheets that used to work but don't anymore. Look
at the tabs called "Participation" and "Written in Lesson" and at the
columns on the left, next to the names.

With 1.9.4, they all give #VALUE! errors.

Is MATCH really the only way to count the number of blank cells from the
left until the first non-blank value is found? It seems such a frightfully
big function to address such a simple task.

There may well be an easier way, but I'm no expert on spreadsheet function
use. You may want to get input on the upstream gnumeric mailing list, or on
GIMPnet #gnumeric.
