A fixed number of entries is fine to workaround the issue, what matters
is that we use the same number across the two ABIs.
I recommend taking some margin space, e.g. MAX(number of messages in
fam, number of messages in gamin) + 20 or so.
Given that the number of entries is unlikely to change, isn't it easier
to use the current number of entries?
The next time you need a new entry, you can reserve 19 more entries.
Ideally this would get upstream, but not a big issue if it doesn't IMHO
