Well, I tested this on my model 1001PX (a WMI BIOS model) and it meant
losing some hotkeys that are handled properly in eeepc_laptop with the
acpi_osi="Linux" workaround:

http://gitorious.org/acpi4asus/acpi4asus/commits/backport-eeepc-wmi-2.6.32

It's a matter of deciding which is the lesser of the evils here.
Although the status quo makes installs a bit more difficult on newer
models, more things work after you've installed using the workaround.

Also, I haven't really tested any installs with the backported
eeepc_wmi, so I can't say with 100% certainty if it solves all of the
problems currently experienced with 2.6.32 and eeepc_laptop during
installs ...
