Package: postgresql-client-common Version: 121 Severity: normal Until last saturday (Sept. 23rd) psql behaved as expected. I haven't used psql since today, when several strange things broke in psql: 1] The history file in .psql_history was truncated to 0. When I copied it back from the backup, the truncation happened again. The newly created file seems to stay, however. It starts with _HiStOrY_V2_ and seems to use a "strange" coding, e.g. the old file had all commands in clear text SELECT * from rechnung where datum='2011-08-01'; while the new one makes the file difficult to read: SELECT\040*\040from\040haendler\040order\040by\040name; (btw. the old file did not have a dedicated version heading)
2] The "Del" key no longer works, it creates a "~" instead of
deleting the character under the cursor
3] Tab completion changed. Previously if I entered "sel<tab>" it would
complete to
"SELECT "
now it only completes to
"SELECT"
(note the space is no longer added).
Probably more isses are present, I just started working and wanted to
report those.
Impact:
1] Low, though being able to copy out difficult commands from the
history file has been very nice at times (e.g. when working out a
difficult statement for a programm or when searching for an old
command with less(1) in the history file (goes much quicker) than
within psql).
2] Medium, backspace and Crtl-D work, though having to remember this
is annoying, I use "Del" quite a bit.
3] Medium. I very much like the tab completion and having to type the
extra space (even though it must be present) is annoying.
I'm not sure what broke psql, I can give you my dpkg.log if you want.
Also if these issues are actually seperate issues, feel free to clone
or reassign as appropriate.
