Hi, I'm told that this bug also broke round-robin DNS functionality for ftp.us.debian.org/http.us.debian.org. We've been using this for around a decade, so this not an academic debate on a proposed RFC, this is real problem in production and it needs to be fixed the way such problems are fixed - by undoing the change that breaks things.
