Somehow I missed the part where you helped contributors to "comprehend the problem" and enabled them to "build consensus on solutions" between March 2010 and mid-October 2016. No, wait, that's because you didn't. You basically just said "no". Maintainership of this package should be transferred to maintainer(s) who are capable of encouraging and leading a community, rather than a maintainer who simply obstructs (and only responds with fine words when is a threat to their authority). The leadership aspects of maintainership are the only essential capacities of a Debian maintainer and with respect to this package, your record is of failure. It is obvious that there are a variety of possible technical approaches, most if not all of which are better than maintaining the status quo for half a decade. I have confidence that if the package were wrested from your control, and the petitioners made maintainers, the technical aspects would be resolved adequately. The real problem here is not technical. This is a management failure. Ian. Full disclosure: * I know Wei Liu as a work colleague and friend and encouraged him to participate in this bug report; * As Ron may remember, I previously encountered him in a previous situation that came before the TC, relating to codecs and mumble. It's some years ago now but IIRC I found myself disagreeing with Ron. * I have formed my opinion about `global' by reading the bug logs. -- Ian Jackson <ijack...@chiark.greenend.org.uk> These opinions are my own.
