I too, noticed this change about a week ago and have had a draft email that I've been hesitating to send, but I guess you beat me to pressing that "send" button. The rest of this email is largely excerpted from that unsent draft. I second Johannes' concerns about this being rolled out without any wider discussion. If individual DFSG Team members want to use LLMs in their review of packages, more power to them. Feel free to have an army of thousands of agents cross-checking each other. But the review I receive on the other side of the NEW process if a package is rejected or maybe needs a slight touch-up should be succinct and to the point. Picking at random a successful[0] and unsuccessful[1] LLM-generated review from the dashboard, the successful review consists of 734 words (~2.5 printed pages) and the unsuccessful review weighs in at a whopping 1,535 words (~5 printed pages). I haven't tried to fully read either report, nor spend brain cycles checking if the LLM output is legitimate or not. I just want to emphasize the many orders of magnitude change in review size that's being generated, and that uploaders may need to spend time trying to review and understand in this new process. I also want to point out there appears to be a penalty for anyone uploading to NEW who chooses to ignore LLM-generated complaints[2] and a bonus for uploads which make the LLM happy[3]. My concern is that this change by the DFSG Team is now forcing every Debian contributor who has a package that goes through the NEW queue to interact with LLM-generated content. As best as I know, this is the first such significant change to any Debian-wide process since the passing of the GR.
