I can imagine two practical benefits of the LLM-assisted workflow:

  1. Help cope with the volume of NEW uploads.
  2. Spot issues that might escape human inspection.

As Johannes said, thanks to the DFSG team for working hard to keep NEW
processing moving. I agree that it would have been better to announce
this additional step beforehand, particularly given how sensitive the
use of LLMs is in Debian.

An alternative worth exploring would be to make preliminary checks
available before upload, for example through methods such as Gateway to
NEW[1]. This could help submitters identify issues early and reduce the
workload for reviewers. I'd be excited to see human reviews
outperforming LLMs, and I imagine the DFSG team would welcome examples
that help improve the process.

Regarding item 2: I have read the LLM reviews carefully, and in many
cases their findings inspired additional commits to improve my
packaging. In some cases, they even helped me catch mistakes that led
me to reject an upload myself before human inspection.

In short, announcing the workflow in advance and providing a way to
opt in or out would have been better. Personally, I have found the
reports helpful both for improving packaging quality and for catching
issues before human review. I would welcome keeping this benefit while
addressing the concerns about how the workflow was introduced.

Kind regards
   Andreas.
