debian-devel is pretty toxic. [1] I think this aspect of the DFSG
team's position is quite understandable. Indeed as you'll see from my
message it's the same position as my own!

But that doesn't mean I would try to make a big change without going
through -devel and reading at least the relevant thread. If the DFSG
Team didn't like that they could have written to d-d-a and invited
comments on a Salsa ticket.

Bottom line here is that the GR very explicitly forbids doing things
at scale without consultation and rough consensus, which is precisely
what the DFSG Team have done.

"Take responsibility" would mean ensuring that the messages are of
satisfactory technical quality [2], not just adding someone's name.

Ian.

[1] The problem isn't really technology. I'm on other mailing lists
were everything is nice. It's that Debian has historically fiercely
resisted genuine improvements to discussion culture, including the
necessary enforcement against bad behaviour. Instead we've preferred
alignment with toxic notions of "Free Speech" and maintainer autonomy.

[2] I don't think satisfactory quality is possible without human
review.

It is probably impossible even *with* human review, given how damaging
LLM output is to the cognition of the human reviewer. But the GR
implicitly rejects that premise and here I'm trying to limit myself to
enforcing the GR's position, very weak as it is.

I would point out, though, that irresponsible unmediated and
unsupervised LLM use was predicted by LLM opponents during the GR
discussion. What we foretold is coming to pass.
