Right, in my eyes this issue is basicly to provide a network wide place 
(/usr/share/etc) to keep configs centrally. Desktop-profiles is then the first 
one that can take advantage of it. Kiosk is really just special kde-settings 
and desktop-profiles supports not only KDE.

The situation with different (KDE) versions is not different from using 
network-mounted home dirs. With profiles you just get rid of many replications.
