You're both right (or both wrong if you prefer :-) You did: $ LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/debug:/usr/lib/debug/lib:/usr/lib/debug/usr/lib Don't do that. The things in /usr/lib/debug are real libraries, and should be used through LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
