I agree. We will definitely have to keep GNOME 1.4 around in unstable even while we're porting stuff to GNOME 2, because a lot of important apps are still GNOME 1 only. I personally still do all my work under GNOME 1.4. So let's go with the "2" suffix, and the appropriate Conflicts: and Replaces: for now. I still hope that we can remove GNOME 1.4 (but keep the runtime libraries) by the time woody+1 releases. So, package maintainers: let's consider this a green light for getting all of GNOME 2 into unstable (and out of experimental).
