Yes, there has been discussion about this on the mailing list. https://lists.debian.org/debian-hurd/2025/04/msg00017.html The patch on that message has worked for me. To reboot you can user 'reboot-hurd', but before doing so be sure to set the root passwd. The intention is to move towards, or make crosshurd to use, mmdebstrap.
