WindowMaker does work, but I need KDE so that I can run KOffice. NeoMagic, eh? Shoot; would have found that right away if I'd just used Google in the first place.
Alright, well; it's proving very difficult to downgrade, so I'll try upgrading to v4 again and post a log if I run into trouble again this time. Thanks for your help. Marc J. According to a web search, you have a NeoMagic 128ZV+ vid card. Looking through a quick google search I could see no sign of other people having problems. Perhaps you should try loading into X without KDE (just use a window manager). If X works then you can narrow down the search. If you still have problems the problems lie in X, not KDE.
