I am a bit confused. According to http://release.debian.org/transitions/html/mumps.html petsc 3.2.dfsg-5 is not built on i386. But according to https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=petsc https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=petsc&arch=i386&ver=3.2.dfsg-5&stamp=1327613489 there were no problems in building it. Same goes for other architectures as well.
