        Perhaps your keyboard are not correctly configurated. My current key 
configuracion is :
        
LNQRNMR2:~> xmodmap -pke | grep Back
keycode  22 = BackSpace
LNQRNMR2:~> xmodmap -pke | grep Del
keycode  91 = KP_Delete KP_Decimal
keycode 107 = Delete

test it.
