I got into the machine by following this site: http://www.debiantutorials.orgd/reset-root-password-debian-gnulinux-etch-286 EXCEPT that I couldn't run the passwd command. I rebooted again and edited the line suggested only making an additional change, changing the "ro" to "rw", then edited the /etc/passwd file using nano, removing the "x" from the line for root and rebooted again. I was able to login to the console using no password for root and reset the root password and my personal password. I'm still getting the errors about not being able to load the ssh_host_key. That's where I am and that's what I'm now working on. -- Raquel ============================================================ The test of a government is not how popular it is with the powerful and privileged few but how honestly and fairly it deals with the many who must depend on it. --President Jimmy Carter -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
