Today dpkg and dpkg-dev showed up as being held back. When I ran

aptitude -s install dpkg dpkg-dev

the result was that kdebase, kicker, kpersonalizer, ksplash, and
libkonq5 became BROKEN.

Something is wrong somewhere if updating required core packages breaks
optional packages.
