Whatever :-P The fact is that by removing "gcc-4.2-base" it triggers the uninstall of those "essential" packages which make the package manager to "ring the bell". But curious is that some of those packages are not "essential" but are selected to be unistalled as they were... from OP's log, "apt" and "das", for instance :-?
