We're assuming the standard 16 bit subnet here too. Don't know why you don't just put the machine on the same d block or even use 169.. but either way.
If you can ping your windows box, try ringing something like 8.8.8.8 or 4.2.2.2 and see if that works. Then make sure resolv.conf has the same dns settings as your windows box.
