I have at last successfully setup my printer, it prints now but only from the Desktop PC Box, whereto is connected. What I did is the followings. I purged almost any cups and printer debian packages, and the task-print-server package too. After that I installed only the printer-driver-foo2zjs so some more packages get installed too, as a dependencies from the former. I want to use this printer form the local network too. I shared this printer in Cups webinterface and set it up as a default printer too. The LAN is made by a router. The workgroup name is JJZ, but I added it as jjz, when installed this Debian system. Is this wrong? In the /etc/hosts file is followings: 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.1.1 dhcppc16.jjz dhcppc16 Maybe must I replace the 'jjz' with the 'JJZ' here? Before I print with the printer, I removed any lines from /var/log/cups/access_log /var/log/cups/error_log /var/log/cups/page_log After I print a PDF file, I have lines in: /var/log/cups/access_log localhost - - [19/Jul/2013:10:34:37 +0200] "POST /printers/HP_LaserJet_1018 HTTP/1.1" 200 56967 Print-Job successful-ok /var/log/cups/page_log HP_LaserJet_1018 csanyipal 2 [19/Jul/2013:10:34:43 +0200] 1 1 - localhost 6.c_osztalyomTanuloinakOrarendje.pdf - - > # usb_printerid /dev/usb/lp0 > Error: Input/output error: GET_DEVICE_ID on '/dev/usb/lp0' Still I get nothing here, but: # usb_printerid /dev/usb/lp0 Error: No such device: can't open '/dev/usb/lp0' but as I say, printing is working now, but only from the Desktop system ( see abowe ). > Please would you post the output of > > /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb > > after attaching the printer to the machine and switching it on. I can see it only in Midnight Commander ( F3 ): /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared lib s), for GNU/Linux 2.6.26, BuildID[sha1]=0xff307e6bb7bd14add0c46e8711560a7f3023db62, stripped # lpstat -a HP_LaserJet_1018 accepting requests since Fri 19 Jul 2013 10:34:52 AM CEST Well, I'm now on the halfway from my goal: to setup this printer as a shared printer on the LAN.
